Island School Council for the Arts
On Saturday, March 12th budding actors, dancers, musicians, and singers performed in front of an esteemed panel of judges for the third annual ISCA Rising Stars youth performing arts talent competition. Representing the major arts organizations from our area, they all came together in support of these aspiring young performers to lend their expertise and award scholarships to summer arts camps and intensives. Last year the Broadway Dreams Foundation awarded our 2014 ISCA Rising Star to Watch, Ellie Lentz a scholarship to attend their NY Intensive. This intensive training allowed her to grow as a performer and experience first hand several New York auditions. Our 2015 ISCA Rising Star to Watch, Harrison Leahy attended the BDF NY Intensive along with Ellie and while there he booked the International Tour of Beauty and the Beast. Quite an amazing experience for a 3rd grade student at Hilton Head Christian Academy!!
Since it inception in 2014, the ISCA Rising Stars Program continues to expand the performing opportunities for these students in our community and beyond as they gain national and international attention. Last June, Harrison Luba, the 2015 Junior Division 1st place winner and the duo of Kendall and Kearston Gonzales, 2015 Junior Division 2nd Place winners were selected to perform in the Piccolo Spoleto Rising Stars Concert in Charleston. These 3rd-5th grade students represented the ISCA Rising Stars well performing their classical piano, violin and cello pieces with superb technique and showmanship. The chair of this prestigious event has already contacted ISCA once again to submit the brightest young performers in southern Beaufort County. Who will join the list of the ISCA Rising Stars to Watch and where will their shining path lead them??
